Yet another new beginning
I arrived in Lisbon in the beginning of February with a 23 kg suitcase and a heart open for something new. My first impression is that it is cold here! The main difficulty is that it is cold everywhere. It is approximately +10° outside and it is about the same temperature in the apartment (if feels even colder) because of the lack of the central heating. There are no radiators in the whole apartment. None! Nada! [Me from the future says it is warm in the clothing stores and in the cafés for the tourists]. At the second night I tried to sleep in a knit cap, which got down from my head real quick. So much for sunny winter Portugal.
Other than that I am imbued with love to azulejo. Azulejo (Portuguese: [ɐzuˈleʒu] or [ɐzuˈlɐjʒu]) is a form of Spanish and Portuguese painted tin-glazed ceramic tile work [1]. I cannot explain why those 14×14 cm tiles look that good. Unfortunately it is hard to show its magic on the photos to the full extent too. In some streets where there are several houses with azulejo facades I have to promise myself to make this one last photo and stop making pictures. After that I turn the corner and pull out my camera again.
This is me welcoming my bright future with azulejo facade in the background.
I went to take a look at my temporary university and was welcomed by the tangerine trees alley.
The sad part is that those tangerines are bitter, I haven’t figured out why yet. To compensate the sad news there is a peacock on the fence in the other part of the city.
